Industry Roundup – 21st June 2013
This week in the world of digital marketing, social media has been a hot topic for bloggers and SEO experts.
According to Search Engine Land, this week, Google have updated their ranking guidelines to add more emphasis on creating a site with quality content, and less emphasis on actually building links.
Tied in with our article on Google+, we can see that social signals are now holding more stead than ever before. Quality back links are now holding less emphasis in terms of ranking, in favour of content that has been read, shared and liked by a large number of viewers. Social “approval” in this sense, indicates to Google that the content is worth reading, useful to viewers and authoritative, and this can have a positive impact in terms of ranking.
We’ve seen it with our clients, since the Penguin update; blog posts that have resulted in a lot of reader interaction, i.e. commenting, sharing, re-tweeting, etc, are now being ranked higher than ever before.
Econsultancy have picked their top infographic of the week which delves into Twitter audience behaviour and the ideal tweet – perfect for businesses looking to gain more followers, while Search Engine Journal offers an alternative graphic to help you write the ideal post for any social platform; definitely worth a look!
There’s been a lot of talk about the launch of Google’s Knowledge Carousel over the past couple of days, and we’re still seeing some significant ranking changes as a result of the Penguin update so watch this space; we’ll be posting more industry news next week!
