The Infinity War for Backlinks

Every day, hundreds of companies and SEO agencies are writing emails to the biggest websites to get a feature or link placement.. It can be difficult to receive a reply at times as everybody wants the same thing A guest post with a backlink in it!

Before we get any further, let’s have a look at what exactly a backlink is.

A backlink is created when one website links to another (aka a link to your website from another website). thanks to quality backlinks, your website rankings are going to change depending on how many backlinks do you have, and where links are coming from.

For example, our account manager Keith Hodges has written a post for searchenginewatch.com about ‘Five factors for global SEO success’. You read and read and when you get to the end of the article, you will see a backlink to our website.

With backlinking, you have a lot of factors that define the page rankings – how many backlinks have you created, where are those backlinks from (what website) and keywords.

Keywords

First, let’s have a look at one of the most important factors – keywords.

Believe it or not – using the right keywords can get your website from bottom to the top in no time. Buzzwords are often used as a starting point for building links. .

An example:
When Fifty Shades of Grey was released back in 2015, we have decided to use that phrase because it was so popular. We combined “The Fifty Shades of Grey” with “SEO” and got “The Fifty Shades of SEO” and yes, that article has done very well!

The Amount of Backlinks

The higher search volume the keyword has, the more backlinks you should be looking to lead to your website, this will increase your authority around the subject, and the equity your site holds, in turn this will improve its position on SERP (search engine results page).

Top pages on the SERP page have more referring backlinks. The lower the keyword volume is, the less impact it has on the position of the domain overall.

Where Are the Backlinks

Everyone has probably heard of the websites like The Guardian, Daily Mail, Vogue etc. We all know how big are those websites.

Thousands of people visiting websites like this every day, reading the news and information and now imagine a backlink to your website would be in an article on one of those websites. Your SERP ranking would explode! This is because of the authority these websites hold, based on trust flow and citation flow. A measurement used industry wide to determine the quality of a link. Essentially, the greater trust search engines have in a website, the better trust flow it will have.

Likewise, unknown and smaller website will have a smaller trust flow, but should by no means be avoided. The reasoning is that a lot of links from smaller websites can have a beneficial impact. In some cases, smaller, more relevant sites (such as industry publications) will have a greater benefit than broader websites where links are not as targeted.

So here you go. I hope you have learned a little bit about the backlinking business and remember, every backlink matters!
