Meet Polaris' New Projects Assistant - Harriet Parnell
Hello, my name is Harriet, but I normally go by Hettie. I’m from Suffolk, living in a small town called Ipswich. It may not be the most interesting of areas to some people but having lived here for the last 20 years I’ve learnt to love it.
I am currently in my first week here at Polaris as Projects Assistant, working towards a Level 3 Apprenticeship in digital marketing. Before this I spent three years working for a popular coffee chain in the UK, with the last two years working for the management team in my store. While this was a great opportunity, which I enjoyed very much, I wanted to further my education which is what led me to Polaris.
I got my first part time job when I was 13 as I was always eager to learn and earn an extra bit of pocket money. I’ve had all sorts of experiences from my weekend jobs over the years and have been exposed to all sorts of people, which was always a great way for me to grow in confidence. After finishing high school, I stayed on to my A Levels in Graphic Communication, English Language and Film Studies. It then came time for further education, but I didn’t see university as the right fit for me. I went on to do a Level 4 Foundation course in art and design, where I learnt some amazing new skills and met some incredible people. Unfortunately, due to Covid in March 2020, my learning switched to online (a bit hard for an art course but a nice challenge).
Outside of work I sometimes keep myself busy making earrings, I make these for myself, friends and family. I find it a useful creative outlet, it’s a great opportunity for me to use my iPad to sketch out ideas. I also have a passion for animals and enjoy offering up my time to dog sit, hopefully someday I can get my own dog. I’ve always been an avid traveler, travelling to some of the most amazing places. My favourite that will always get a mention was South Africa, I went to a game reserve called Shamwari back in 2019 on a volunteering programme.
I am a Star Wars fan but especially a big fan of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Finally, over the years I have been a member of many different theatre clubs and I love performing. Fun fact, I played Morticia in a musical production of The Addams Family and neither of my grandmothers realised it was me.
To The Future
I am looking forward to working with the team here at Polaris, as I write this, I have just got off a call meeting all the lovely members, who made me feel very welcome. This is such an amazing opportunity for me, and I would like to thank Amo and the team for the giving me a chance. I can’t wait to get stuck in and learn lots of new things.
