Google’s Map ads have changed to help local businesses not only become more visible but also drive more traffic to their physical location. Google’s revamped maps have been developed to provide users with a more inclusive and rounded experience.
Currently this update is only available for big brand names, but will be released to all businesses before the end of the month.
Promoted Pins
Promoted Pins are company logos that indicate the physical location of a shop or restaurant on Google Maps. Pins have been designed to be unobtrusive and simple so that drivers don’t get distracted from the road.
In Store Promotions
With promoted pins, businesses are allowed to feature specials that are happening right now at that location, displaying the in-store promotion below the logo on the map itself.
Ads
Google’s new local search ads will appear on Google Maps for desktop and the Google Maps mobile app. If a consumer is following a Google Maps route and searches for somewhere to eat, for example, using a “near me” search then a restaurant that paid to have an ad appear, would come up first in the search results list.
Customisable Business Pages with Local Inventory
Local business pages can be customised to increase physical visits to stores. They’ll still include essential business information such as address and operating hours, but business owners will now be able to feature the in-store promotions they offer as well.
Customisable business pages will also highlight searchable local inventory, allowing consumers to find out if the store they plan to visit has the item they’re looking for.
